3 Best Places to Food Shop for Fitness!

3 Best Places to Food Shop for Fitness!

When you begin to eat healthier, you have to know where the best places to shop for food. Some places do have healthier options, fresher food or better flavors. I’ve expressed before that I’m a foodie before a trainer so buying great-tasting, healthy food while on a budget is very important to me.

From my knowledge and experience seeking for maximum health and fitness in the North Jersey Area, here are THREE places that I think are the best to food shop!

1) COSTCO WHOLESALE for Healthy Foods in Bulk

Team Costco all the way! I love this place. The reason why this is number one is because you can buy all of your healthy food in bulk, especially protein. They have everything from chicken, eggs, pork, turkey, lamb, beef, fish, shrimp and more! Protein is what should make up most of your diet when you exercise, especially when you do resistance training.

They also have many other healthy foods that should be on stock in your kitchen. They have a huge selection of fruits, vegetables, nuts, nut butters, healthy oils and healthy snacks. They even have frozen fruits that are great for blending smoothies. Greek yogurts and granola for snacks. The list goes on!

Remember, Costco is great to buy healthy food in bulk so just be aware to buy only what you need and know how long it’s going to last you. It’s easy to go crazy in this store and realize you bought wayyyy too much. If you workout and want to start eating healthy, getting a Costco membership is a must!

2) TRADER JOE’S for Unique Flavors and Healthier Alternatives

Trader Joe’s is the grocery store for foodies because of the unique FOODS and FLAVORS they offer. Not only are the foods great quality but they taste great. They have fruits, vegetables, protein bars, flavored seltzers, marinated meats, vegan cheeses, healthy chips, healthier desserts and more!

Even though some may think some foods are not the healthiest you have to look at it from a taste and health perspective. Is sliced up bananas covered in dark chocolate from Trader Joes better than eating Ben and Jerry’s from ShopRite, yes. Are there healthier dessert options in the world? Of course. But at least you’re making your way without feeling like you’re totally giving up delicious dessert.

I like to shop at Trader Joes for the “tastier” foods that aren’t completely trash. But the whole store still has its big share of healthier foods that you probably won’t find anywhere. It’s a matter or exploring and picking the happy medium between health and flavor. Shop here if you still want food to make you happy with flavor!

3) FARMER’S MARKET for Freshness and Saving Money

The Farmer’s Market should be your fruit and vegetable PLUG. Fruits and vegetables are the SUPER POWER foods your body will thrive on when you’re trying to become healthier and fitter. The farmer’s market is great to buy what you need only. This would be the exact opposite of Costco. Instead of buying 6 bell peppers at a time, you can buy only what you need.

Also, the Farmer’s Market is very inexpensive. I still get shocked when they ring me up at the cashier because what I think the price will be, it’s always less than if I were to have shopped at Whole Foods or ShopRite. This place is also the best if you juice fruits and vegetables. You can really develop a strong relationship with fruits and vegetables when you see it in its “farm” form. Shop at the Farmer’s Market for freshness and to save money!
