3 "Healthier" Places to Eat On-The-Go!

Eating on-the-go is a big part of American culture. In this country, we have become accustom to eating while driving on the road going from one competing commitment to the next.

Some occupations are so demanding that getting something to eat while out on a job has become a normal way of life.

When you start working out, you have to find places that can offer you healthier options to eat and drink.

With so many choices out there, I wanted to give you 3 “Healthier” places that you can eat on-the-go and still make fitness gains!

1. Wawa/Quickchek Convenient Stores

here are so many hidden gems in these convenient stores that can give the perfect pick-me-up anytime of day. If you’re looking for something sturdy to eat, you can create your own sandwich, salad or wrap or pick any premade ones they display in the center of the store. They also have cheeses, yogurt and packaged fruits to pair with your choice.

These convenient stores will also have premade protein drinks and gallons of water in the refrigerator making it a great place to stop in before and after workouts. If you’re feeling sleepy, you can get a cup of coffee of different flavors and there are even almond milk options available.

I highly recommend these places because they’re always available (even late night), they have great pre/post workout foods/drinks, and food can be made fresh!

2. Soup, Salad, Wrap, Juice, Smoothie Cafes

The cafes I’m talking about here are the ones that sell you beautiful lunch foods. These cafes usually will offer great soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, juices, smoothies and best of all, coffee!

The reason why these are healthier options is because foods are made fresh, you can pick and choose what goes in your meal and having smoothie or juices options can deliver your healthy nutrients quickly in liquid form.

You may have to Google Search “healthy cafes” to find the best ones locally but knowing the best ones on your daily route will be helpful when trying to get healthy. I highly recommend JACKIE’S GRILLETTE in Little Falls if you are in the Cedar Grove area!

3. “Assembly Line” Styled Food Chains

Here I’m talking about the “Chipotles”, “Qdobas” and “Cavas”. These type of food chains are “healthier” because you actually have authority of what is going to go in your meal. The most important thing to know is what has to go in your meal to make fitness gains and watch the amounts that go into your container.

You should tell them what to add or take out in order to support your nutrtional needs. If you feel like they didn’t give you enough protein, tell them to add more. If they dumped too much rice on you, tell them to remove half. Try to put extra vegetables on everything and put all the sauces on the side.

The reasons why these food chains are “healthier” is because you have more control of the construction of your meal, you can add/remove ingredients and usually the serving sizes are so big that it can be eaten as two meals spaced a few hours apart.
